A
successful phone call guarantees sales but also creates a fulfilled and stable
relationship with customers. Read how to be positive and quick-witted on the
phone.
1. Smile
Do you know the saying "You can hear a smile"? Give it a try. If you
smile and talk at the same time, you are sure to win over any discussion. A
simple method to keep smiling during a phone call: Place a mirror on your desk
– you'll see it works!
2. Pitch of the voice
A deep calm voice exudes an air of confidence while a voice which is too high
or strident has an unpleasant effect on the caller. Play with your voice while
speaking, for example increase the pitch of your voice at the end of a
question. Breathe properly and pause briefly, calmly wait for the caller's
response. Further training includes many effective voice exercises which will
help ease any tension in your voice.
3. Voice articulation
If you feel insecure, the caller will hear it in your voice. Be prepared before
a phone call: draw up an outline, for example, jot down your USP. This will
make you feel more confident during the discussion.
4. Pause
If you have a short break between sentences, you will feel calm and relaxed as
well as build up your confidence. Consciously stop talking between sentences -
it will show you are competent and reliable.
5. Moves
The caller cannot actually see you, but he perceives the relaxed and animated
inflection of your voice. Use a headset so that your hands are free when you're
making a phone call! This makes your way of speaking seem more authentic and
personal. One more piece of advice: Making a phone call is even easier standing
up!
6. Straight body posture
In your view, how do you think your business partner perceives you if you are
slouching or slumped in your chair? A straight body posture helps you speak
clearly and distinctly. If you feel weak, try to consciously sit up straight
and on the edge of your chair. A few stretching exercises will have an
incredible effect on your state of mind.
7. Vocal strength
A strong and pleasant voice will leave a good impression on the caller, but
will also create a trusting relationship in the long term. Train your voice
before making a phone call with this simple but effective exercise: Say these
syllables one after the other loud and clear: Mam. Mem. Mim. Mom. Mum.
