A
lot of time is lost deleting undesired e-mails. But that doesn't have to be the
case. Of course, you should only give your e-mail address to legitimate
partners and also use the spam filter function provided by your webmail,
provider, or company as well as a second self-learning filter in your own
e-mail program. You should also use only a second "disposable" e-mail
address for competitions and forums.
Apart from the above, there are also a few professional hints to keep your
inbox clean:
- Choose an e-mail address with xyz
If possible, don't
use typical combinations (asmith@domain.com, john.brown@domain.com),
don't create a very short address (ab@domain.com, susy@domain.com), but
instead, use the end of the alphabet (zebra@domain.com,
xyandrew@domain.com). The reason: Spam lists are often processed
alphabetically - Use disposable e-mail addresses
if you
think that a website is dubious, but you have to provide an e-mail
address, you can obtain addresses with a limited life from providers
such as spamgourmet.com. - Code e-mail on websites
You
shouldn't enter e-mail addresses on websites in text format, as
spammers use harvesters (search robots) to search the Internet for
e-mail addresses (…@…). If you want to provide your
e-mail address on your website, save it as an image (gif). - Disable your automatic Out of Office Assistant
Automatic out of office assistants also confirm to spammers that it is a proper address. Therefore, disable tools such as this. - Suppress loadable e-mail content
Many
spammers build web bugs and other loadable content into their spam and
can then see whether the sent e-mail was opened, which would confirm
that the e-mail address is correct. To prevent this, set your e-mail
client so that no external content can be loaded automatically. To make
sure that viruses have no chance of infecting your system, you should
also disable the preview function of e-mails.
