Biophotonics at LASER 2009 World of PHOTONICS
Light in the service of life

How can cancer tumours be diagnosed and treated reliably without surgery? How can effective cures be developed? Who can determine which pollen cause most problems for allergy sufferers? Biophotonics provides answers to many important questions in medicine, biotechnology and environmental technology. LASER World of PHOTONICS 2009 and the World of Photonics Congress have specifically developed their exhibition and congress offerings for biophotonics and the life sciences.

For the first time the trade show has a separate exhibition focus on the subject of biophotonics in Hall B1. Research institutes, developers and manufacturers of optical and photonic methods and processes can provide insights into their biophotonic technologies within the scope of a shared stand or on an individual stand. The broad-based areas of application include dental medicine, dermatology and urology, molecular diagnostics, innovative drug delivery technologies, waterway monitoring and drinking water treatment as well as food and animal feed production.
To complement this, the accompanying World of Photonics Congress with the Medical Laser Applications conference and European Conferences on Biomedical Optics will provide expert knowledge in a concise manner. Interdisciplinary workshops entitled Visions for future diagnostics round off the extensive fringe program of LASER 2009 World of Photonics in this field.

The Medical Laser Applications conference will present practice-oriented expert speeches about lasers in medicine, optical diagnostics, high-end endoscopy, minimal-invasive surgery and medical laser technologies. The European Conferences on Biomedical Optics present a program of speeches on biomedical optics, biophotonics, biomedical imaging, diagnostics and therapeutics. In the interdisciplinary workshops, Visions for future diagnostics, which are offered free in Hall B1, medical practitioners will explain the particular challenges that they are confronted with in the areas of oncology, diagnostics and infectious diseases. Representatives from the industry will present state of the art products and services. In cooperation with scientists potential solution approaches will be developed on the basis of biophotonic methods and technologies to lay the cornerstone for future developments in the field of biophotonics.
