British fibre laser specialist would complement Trumpf product portfolio for lasers in the low power range.
Trumpf has announced its intention, to present a takeover proposal to
the shareholders of the British laser company SPI Lasers. TRUMPF will
offer 0.4 Pounds Sterling per share (about 0.5 Euros, exchange rate as
of September 8, 2008), the offer therefore will amount to 27.8 million
Pounds Sterling (about 34.5 million Euros, exchange rate as of
September 8, 2008).
"Both companies would benefit from a takeover," emphasizes Peter
Leibinger, Vice Chairman of TRUMPF and Head of the Laser Technology and
Electronics Division. The market for industrial lasers will continue to
grow in the future. This is also true for fibre laser applications in
the low power range. SPI Lasers is one of the leading manufacturers for
fibre lasers. The company has a broad product portfolio and thus
complements TRUMPF's product line. The world-wide distribution network,
numerous patents as well as technological expertise are also pluses for
SPI Lasers.
"The acquisition gives SPI Lasers and TRUMPF the opportunity to
participate in above-average market growth for fibre lasers in the
future," states Leibinger. The acquisition would also complement the
activities of the joint venture with Jenoptik AG, that was established
in 2007. It develops optical modules for fibre lasers.
