The Berthold Leibinger Foundation distinguishes outstanding achievements in applied laser technology with the "Berthold Leibinger Innovation Prize". The objective is the promotion of laser research and development in promising application areas of the future. The deadline for potential prizewinners is 30 November 2007.
"The ability to be innovative is the key to the future. The questions posed worldwide can only be answered by continual progress in science and technology." This is the vision of the prize founder Professor Berthold Leibinger, to the fulfillment of which he dedicated his laser prize.
The Berthold Leibinger Innovation Prize honors scientists and researchers, who take new paths in the application of laser light. The Berthold Leibinger Foundation has awarded the prize for outstanding research and development work in using or generating laser light every two years since the year 2000. In the past, new beam sources such as disk and fiber lasers, a laser scalpel for treating lung cancer and a highly modern microscopic technique for cell research have been distinguished.
The Berthold Leibinger Foundation calls on individuals and study groups, who are working on outstanding laser innovations with potential for the future, to apply for this internationally awarded distinction. The three prizewinners receive prize money of a total of 35,000 euros.
The registration deadline is 30 November 2007. The jury composed of renowned personalities and experts from science and commerce selects the best of the prize-worthy works from among all submissions and suggestions. Those nominated travel at invitation of the Berthold Leibinger Foundation to a jury session to present their works personally.
The prize will be awarded on 15 September 2008.
