First dual-head color sensor for color recognition by human standards

Besides the industry automation proven perceptive color sensors PCS-I and PCS-II Silicann Technologies is now offering a high-end device for true-to-perception indutrial color recognition. The PCS-III is a perceptive color sensor with 2 identical, fiber optic based sensor inputs. The recognition of any color or contrast edge independent of the respective object color, long-term stable color checks and color control in changing ambient temperature are finally possible.

Control, handling and functionality of the PCS-III are similar to those of PCS-I and PCS-II. The essential differences arise from the 3 potential operating modes. By the setting „differential“ color differences between both sensor inputs are captured. In this operating mode the color table contains color difference values and no true color values. The main fields of application for this mode can be found in recognition of any color or contrast edge independent of the respective object color. Equally a hiding of the background and therefore a recognition of transparent objects can be done. In the mode „two-channel“ the sensor operates with one input (or both inputs) based on absolute values, so object colors. The functioning of this operating mode is the same to the PCS-II except that two measuring points can be processed simultaneously. With the setting „referenced“ one sensor input operates against a (stable) reference (reference white). The second sensor input is the working channel which is directed to the object that has to be recognized. In this mode a permanent online correction of color values allows long-term stable color checks. In cases where long-term color recognition or color recognition in changing ambient temperature are crucial the PCS-III is preferably applied.

Furthermore incorrect color checkings that are possible with usual RGB-sensors are eliminated with the PCS-III. Slightest color nuances can finally be recognized for challenging applications. This is made possible by the unique concept of transformation of color signals in true-to-perception, i.e. according to human color perception, color spaces. The outcome of this is a very subtle color resolution. In addition the color impression of humans is mimicked.

With the PCS-III Silicann Technologies is continuing the revolution in industrial color signal processing. Better color recognition and hence noticeable cost reduction in process automation can be achieved. Compared to the technological advantage the sensor is reasonably priced and absolutely precise.
