Industrial production up by 0.6% in euro area -- up by 0.5% in EU27

Seasonally adjusted industrial production increased by 0.6% in the euro area (EA13) in February 2007 compared to January 2007. Production fell by 0.5% in January and rose by 1.2% in December 2006. In the EU27 output gained 0.5% in February, after a decrease of 0.5% in January and an increase of 1.0% in December. In February 2007 compared to February 2006, industrial production rose by 4.1% in the euro area and by 4.0% in the EU27.
These estimates are released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities.

Monthly comparison
In February 2007 compared to January 2007 production of energy increased by 0.8% in the euro area and by 0.9% in the EU27. In both areas, capital goods grew by 0.8%, intermediate goods by 0.5% and non-durable consumer goods by 0.1%. Durable consumer goods rose by 0.4% in the euro area and by 0.3% in the EU27.
In February 2007, and among the Member States for which data are available, industrial production rose in fifteen Member States and fell in six. The highest increases were registered in Bulgaria and Romania (both +3.7%), Luxembourg (+3.3%) and the Netherlands (+2.4%), while the largest decreases were recorded in Ireland (-4.6%), Portugal (-3.7%) and Greece (-1.3%).

Annual comparison
In February 2007 compared to February 2006, production of capital goods increased by 7.4% in the euro area and by 7.8% in the EU27. Intermediate goods grew by 6.7% and 6.6% respectively. Durable consumer goods gained 4.8% in the euro area and 5.5% in the EU27. Non-durable consumer goods rose by 2.6% and 2.0% respectively. Production of energy fell by 5.5% in the euro area and by 4.9% in the EU27.
In February 2007, and among the Member States for which data are available, industrial production rose in seventeen Member States and fell in four. The highest increases were registered in Ireland (+22.4%), the Czech Republic and Slovakia (both +15.5%), Poland (+12.9%) and Romania (+10.1%), while decreases were recorded in Finland (-1.3%), the Netherlands (-1.1%), Italy (-0.7%) and the United Kingdom (-0.4%).
