Although VoIP may be on its way to widespread adoption, In-Stat research indicates many businesses haven't yet taken steps to increase security for VoIP systems. According to a recent end-user survey, with the exception of VPNs, no mechanisms for securing VoIP had more than 50% penetration across all sizes of business. Preventative measures, including periodic and pre-deployment had especially low percentages of penetration, even in the larger organizations.

To date, the focus of most VoIP deployments has been improving reliability and quality. As businesses extend their IP telephony deployments to more locations, securing the VoIP infrastructure will become increasingly important.

According to In-Stat end-user research, almost 75% of the businesses have deployed some type of VoIP solution in their companies. As businesses extend their VoIP deployments to more locations, shipments of business IP phones and IP PBX lines are expected to show strong growth over the next five years.

VoIP comprises a wide array of voice solutions, including IP PBX equipment, hosted IP telephony, and broadband IP telephony, as well as collaboration and conferencing products.
