Pixargus - complete inspection of tubing surface
First-ever optical inline inspection of transparent tubing
For the manufacture of medical technology products, Pixargus presents its new ProfilControl 5-Medictube inline inspection system. It is the first system to enable optical inline inspection of transparent tubing. As defects, such as inclusions or inhomogeneities, are detected already during the production process, overall manufacturing becomes much more efficient.

Organic solar cells make manufacturing processes cheaper
At present growth in the solar industry is held back by the fact that the production of silicon-based solar modules is rather expensive and consumes a lot of energy. One alternative could be cheaper solar and photovoltaic cells made from organic materials that would enable the construction of innovative displays, solar tarpaulins and solar windows. Currently, several projects are being carried out which are aimed at researching new materials, production processes and installation technologies in this area. The Helmholtz Centre in Berlin, formerly the Hahn-Meitner Institute, has been working on this topic since 2001.
Light in the service of life
How can cancer tumours be diagnosed and treated reliably without surgery? How can effective cures be developed? Who can determine which pollen cause most problems for allergy sufferers? Biophotonics provides answers to many important questions in medicine, biotechnology and environmental technology. LASER World of PHOTONICS 2009 and the World of Photonics Congress have specifically developed their exhibition and congress offerings for biophotonics and the life sciences.
Achieving progress in 3-D microscopy with a 3-D reader platform
Light microscopic characterization of complex dynamic processes in and between cells in a 3-dimensional context is still a domain of the relatively expensive confocal laser scanning microscope. By developing a 3-D reader platform based on innovative technology approaches the "3 D Tissue-Screen" research network wants to exceed the performance of current high-end 3-D microscopes and also design a much cheaper product. Potential applications for the technical innovation are in the areas of medicine and ecology.
